The time is mid-2020, not only that we start to have Corinavirous everywhere, I got the 2nd most terrifying news people can get – “You are getting fired!”. This was half a year after moving from a network analyst position to a DevOps position. At first, I knew that this is not the end of the world, I have the experience, other people at my work valued me, and my professional skills are above average.
But thinking of it again – I had no title. I mean, I had a lot of skills
- Python, but as scripting lenguege, not the kind of producation-dev
- Data processing, but not much to say I’m a data engineer
- Networking, but for an IT job I also need some knowlage of CISCO tools or something…
- Linux, actually can be good for IT but I know only the user-side of the OS
- Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, FFMPEG, Helm, HTML,…
And then it hit me, the thing I am good at – is learning. I know that no matter what I do, I know I could dive in really fast. After figuring it out I started to see it outside my job, I know how to invest in stocks, how to 3D print (and model), build electronic circuits, to grow different kinds of plants (house plants, vegetables, carnivorous plants, hydroponic growing, terrariums,..). All from self-learning from free resources online.
I started the “Today I Learned” blog as a way to cherish these small things I learn, and I try to do it every day. I hope it will encourage you to do so, and maybe, just maybe, even learn something new from me.
As you may see, most of my topics will be technological and dev-oriented. I’ll try to keep things as-small-as-possible yet still keep the core information. Yet I’ll add links to resources for those of you who want further reading. However, I keep the right to publish non-tech and other cool stuff, so I’d recommend you to stay tuned.
